Fiscal Sponsorship Program FAQ
Why do I need fiscal sponsorship?
Organizations that have not been granted tax-exempt status by the IRS are not able to provide their donors with tax receipts. Additionally, if the project is not incorporated, it will not be able to establish a bank account. FJC solves these problems by accepting tax deductible donations designated for the project and by housing funds for the project. When an organization needs to pay expenses related to the project, it can request a distribution from FJC.
What fees are involved with the program?
FJC applies an administrative fee of 1% annually, based on the average daily balance of the account. Additionally, we apply a transactional fee, which is typically set for the agreement term at 3-5%, depending on the expected volume of contributions and distributions. FJC’s contribution fee is significantly lower than other fiscal sponsors, which often charge 7-12% per contribution! We also do not charge an application fee, renewal fee or minimum balance fee, as many other fiscal sponsorship programs do.
How long does the application process take?
The length of the application process depends on a number of factors, including how complete the application is at the time of submission, the nature of the project, and the number of applications currently being reviewed. The average application is reviewed and decided upon within 4-6 weeks.
Does FJC provide any funding for the project?
FJC does not provide organizations funding, nor do we fundraise on behalf of projects. However, FJC will assist projects with completing third party foundation applications, in addition to the planning and implementing of fundraising and marketing strategies.
